What permissions does UpScrolled need?

Written by Ryan Quinn

UpScrolled requires certain permissions to give you the full experience — from changing your profile photo to posting videos or tagging locations. Permissions vary slightly between iOS and Android.

Profile photo or banner changes:

Gallery / Photos permission → Needed to select a photo from your device storage.

Camera permission → Needed to capture a new photo or banner directly in the app. You can decline and still use the gallery selector (small preview window at the bottom corner).

Posting videos:

Gallery / Photos permission → Required to select an existing video from your device.

Camera permission → Required to record a new video inside the app.

Microphone permission → Required to capture sound when recording. Currently requested even if you only want to upload an existing video — this will be refined in future versions.

Tagging locations:

Location permission → Needed to tag your current location in a post. You can manually search and tag a location without granting this permission.

Notifications:

Notifications permission → Required to receive alerts for likes, comments, new followers, messages, and other updates.

Good to know:

You do not have to grant all permissions — features will simply be limited depending on what you allow.

You can update permissions anytime from your device's Settings → Apps → UpScrolled → Permissions.

Denying unnecessary permissions will not block your ability to use the app for other functions.
