Why does video quality change during playback?

Written by Ryan Quinn

Upscrolled uses Adaptive Streaming, which automatically adjusts video quality based on your internet speed. If your connection slows down or fluctuates, the video may appear blurry or distorted until it stabilizes. This is expected behavior, not a bug.

Why does distortion happen mid-video?

Distortion that starts in the middle of a video (not from the beginning) means your internet speed dropped suddenly. The stream adjusts in real time, so quality will recover once your connection is stable again.

How to improve playback quality

1. Switch from mobile data to a stable Wi-Fi network.

2. Close other apps or devices sharing the same connection.

3. Turn off any active VPN, as this can slow your connection speed.

Not every video will be affected — quality changes depend on your connection at the time of viewing.
